Using Effective Influencing Skills

The first few minutes of your appearance are when your critical first impressions are made, and so your demeanour, body language and appearance are all fundamental in winning over other people.

Whether it’s a family gathering, a social occasion, a date or a business meeting, the way that you make that first grand entrance will determine whether the remainder of the get-together will go well or badly for you.

Stage actors are the accomplished experts in making an imposing entrance, for their initial body language has to convey to the audience a vision of their personality and of their relationship with other members of the cast. In spite of this many famous actors have expressed their nervousness of appearing on stage. But their craft enables them to overcome their fear.

You should appraise the situation before making an entrance, and adjust it accordingly. It will not be the same for a gathering of friends as for a business meeting. Avoid being late – it is really not fashionable at all, and you can make an equally good impression by being early and greeting people as they arrive. Adjust your emotions to be appropriate to the situation. Holiday gatherings will call for a different emotion from that used for PTA meetings.

When you enter a room, look around and make eye contact with people. When you are not the centre of attention yourself, accept the fact. Don’t rush to be first to greet the actual centre of attention when they make an entrance. Even if you’re not, do look happy to be there. Use body language to convey that you are pleased to be in the company of the people present. Finally if you fluff your entrance by tripping over yourself, make light of the matter then focus on the question in hand, whether it be a business meeting or a date.

If you want to make a lasting influence on people, make sure that you live the type of life that other people can respect, while at the same time living life to the full. This means you should pay attention to your appearance, eat a healthy diet, keep fit and have attention-grabbing hobbies and pastimes.

Make sure that you have a good job and that you hold on to it. Respect others and their opinions. Attending the appropriate workshop held by Work Your Wealth can give you further advice and help.
