How Health and Well-being affect your Life

What do we mean by well-being? There is no exact single definition since the idea is a concept, but we can generalise and describe the concept as being the level of contentment, satisfaction or fulfillment enjoyed by an individual, a group of people or even a country.

Generalising somewhat, well-being may be placed into several categories. These include

  • Well-being in your Career – if you enjoy your work and all that it entails then you are twice as likely to thrive in your day-to-day life and all it entails.
  • Financial Well-being – financial security or financial freedom will influence your overall well-being far more than your salary alone.
  • Relationships – strong relationships and good social connections will have a great influence on your total Social Well-being.
  • Physical Well-being or Health – take regular exercise and eat healthy food for a flourishing physical well-being and you will feel better, look better and live longer.
  • Community Well-being – an altruistic approach to the community by activities such as volunteering will increase your community well-being, and you will end up feeling better and with a better understanding of the community.

It can clearly be shown that your quality of life affects your health, whether it is your physical or mental health. This is true for both individuals and for the community. In the case of you, the individual, it works both ways, your health having a direct effect on your well-being, or quality of life. In this respect it is important for you to do everything that you can to live a healthy life.

To eat healthily, to exercise the body regularly, get plenty of sleep, don’t smoke (and if you do, give up!), drink plenty of water and exercise the mind regularly. Cut back on you television time and avoid time wasting activities such as gaming. By sticking to these recommendations and living such a life you will soon find that your well-being is increasing and with it your self-esteem.
